With Microsoft® Internet Mail, you can exchange e-mail with anyone on the Internet, anywhere in the world. You manipulate your e-mail commands using the Toolbar. Some of the user friendly features of Microsoft® Internet Mail include: the ability to attach files to your mail, the ability to rate the priority of your mail, and the ability to create a personalized signature to attach onto your outgoing mail.
Note: This updated version of Microsoft Internet Mail contains a new security feature that will warn you before launching a program attached to an e-mail message.
This section details the following features of Microsoft®Internet Mail:
The Toolbar is a graphical representation of the commands used to operate Microsoft® Internet Mail. By mastering the Toolbar, you will know all that you need to begin exchanging e-mail messages.
Most of the commands necessary to operate Microsoft® Internet Mail are located within the Toolbar. Below is a copy of the Microsoft® Internet Mail Toolbar along with the name and function of each button.

To create messages follow the directions below.
1. On the Toolbar, click New Message.
2. Fill in the To field with the name of the recipient.
3. Fill in the Subject field with the message subject.
4. Type your message in the dialog box.
To send a message that you have composed, follow the directions below.
1. On the Microsoft® Internet Mail menu, click New Message.
2. In the To box, type the e-mail name of each recipient, separating each name with a semicolon (;).
To send copies, type the e-mail name of each recipient in the Cc box, separating each name with a semicolon.
3. In the Subject box, type the subject of the message.
4. Type your message.
5. On the File menu, click Send Message.
Microsoft® Internet Mail provides an address book to store names and e-mail addresses of your correspondents. You can use the address book to fill in the recipient headers (To and Cc) of your messages.
1. In Microsoft® Internet Mail, click the File menu, and then click Address Book.
2. In Address Book, click the File menu, and then click New Contact or New Group.
3. Enter the name and e-mail address of the correspondent.
Note: To quickly add a name to your address book from an existing message, right-click the name in the message or reply window, and then click Add To Address Book.
Adding a Signature to Messages
You may want to personalize your messages by adding a signature that will be included at the bottom of each mail. To add a signature to your messages, follow the directions below.
1. On the Microsoft® Internet Mail and News menu, click Options.
2. On the Signature tab, click Text, and then type the text you want to appear at the bottom of your message.
3. Click Add Signature To The End Of All Outgoing Messages.
Adding an Attachment to Messages
If you need to give someone a file, graphic, spreadsheet, or word processing document, you can send them using e-mail as a message attachment.
To send a file as an attachment to a message
1. In the Compose window of the message, choose the Attach button.
2. Select the file you want to attach to the message, and then choose OK. You can attach more than one file to a message.
If you want to change or delete the attachment, select the attached file in the Attachments box to display the Attachment dialog box.
3. When you are ready to send the message with its attachment, choose the Send button.
Changing the Priority of an Outgoing Message
You may want to set the priority of an outgoing message. Give an important message a High Priority or set a casual message to Low Priority. To set the priority of a message follow the directions below.
1. In the message window, click the Microsoft® Internet Mail menu.
2. Point to Set Priority, and then click High, Normal, or Low.
Notes: This setting changes the priority only for the current message.
Checking the spelling in an outgoing message
Make sure you use the spellcheck function on all outgoing messages before you send them. Check your messages for spelling by following the directions below.
1. On the Mail or News menu in an outgoing message, click Check Spelling.
Note: To check the spelling in all outgoing messages, click the Mail or News menu, click Options, and then click the Send tab. Select the following check box: Always Check Spelling Before Sending.
If you do not have any Microsoft® Office 95 programs installed on your computer, the Check Spelling command will not be available. Microsoft® Internet Mail and News uses the spelling checker provided with all Office 95 programs Microsoft® Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
To check if you have been sent any messages, follow the directions below.
1. On the Mail menu, click Send and Receive.
2. Any unread messages that you have will be downloaded and any outgoing messages will be sent.
To read a file that you have received:
1. Select the message in the message list, click the File menu, and then click Open.
2. At the bottom of the message window, double-click the file attachment you want to open or run.
Note: To save a file attachment, click the File menu, and then click Save Attachments. To display or run an attachment from the preview pane, click the file attachment icon in the preview pane header, and then click the file name(s). To save the attachment from the preview pane, hold down the CTRL key while clicking the file name.
To dispose a message that you no longer want to save, follow the directions below.
1. In the message list, click the message you want to delete.
2. On the File menu, click Delete.
Note: To undo deleting a message, open the Deleted Items folder, and then copy the message to the Inbox or other folder.
You may want to create a folder in which to save and store your important mails. To create a folder, follow the directions below.
1. On the File menu, point to Folder, and then click Create.
2 In the New Folder Name box, type the name.
Note: You cannot delete the Deleted Items, Sent Items, Inbox, or Outbox folders.
Move or Copy a Message to Another Folder
You may want to move a mail from one folder into another to better organize your messages. In order to do this, follow the directions listed below.
1. In the message list, click the message you want to move or copy.
2 On the Microsoft® Internet Mail menu, click Move To or Copy To, and then click the folder.
